What is Cholesterol?
It is a type of FAT. It is found in each and every cell of your body.
Whether my body needs Cholesterol?
Yes. Your body needs cholesterol
to make HARMONES,
to make VITAMIN-D,
to DIGEST FOOD.
But excess cholesterol is dangerous
Then, if I don't eat cholesterol food, it should affect me?
Not exactly. Even if you are not eating any cholesterol food, there is no harm.
Mr.LIVER is producing enough cholesterol for you.
Then, cholesterol must be good for health. Is it not?
The answer is Yes and No. Actually LDL is bad and HDL is Good.
What is LDL?
It is Low Density Lipoprotein. It is bad cholesterol
What is HDL?
It is High Density Lipoprotein. It is GOOD cholesterol
What is Lipoprotein?
Blood is like WATER. Cholesterol is like OIL. You know very well that
water and oil will not mix. In the same way, Blood and Cholesterol also
will not mix. If they are not mixing, then it is difficult to carry the
Cholesterol in the bloodstream. So The God put this fat inside protein.
Wah! Now there is no problem in carrying this compound. This compound is
called as LIPOPROTEIN. LIPO means FAT. Protein means Protein(!!!!) So FAT
inside the Protein is LipoProtein.
How LDL is working bad?
If LDL is more, it is deposited in the blood vessels. Slowly, it is thickened.
This thicked item is called as PLAQUE. When plaque builds up, blood vessel
narrow. If blood vessel is narrow, enough blood will not flow to heart.
If enough blood is not flowing, then enough oxygen will not be transported.
If enough oxygen is received by the heart cells, the heart cells will die.
If heart cells die, then heart also tries to die. It is the HEART ATTACK.
If the blood vessels in the brain narrows, then brain gets less oxygen.
Then brain also will try to die. It isthe STROKE.
How HDL does me good?
It removes the plaque.
How much HDL I should have?
60 or more is Good
200 to 239, Not Good
40 or more, Danger man, Danger
How much LDL is OK?
LDL : More than 100 is NOT good.
HDL : More than 60 IS good.
